And it can be even harder to remember to stay hydrated while we’re working from home, which is why hydration expert and Co-founder of ViDrate, Nick Hird has provided his top tips on staying hydrated while working from home.
Put a big bottle of water in the fridge before you go to bed at night. If you don’t like the taste of water, why not try adding some fruit, such as cucumber, or a squeeze of lemon or a zero sugar hydration powder to help improve the taste.
While we are sleeping we use water and often wake up dehydrated. Having a glass of water as soon as we wake up helps replace your water loss immediately and kick starts your hydration for the day.
Having a water bottle on your desk is a great visual reminder to drink more water. Plus you can buy bottles with time markings on them to help you stay hydrated throughout the day, and motivate you to hit your hydration goals.
If you find yourself lost in your work, why not try setting alarms throughout the day to remind yourself to refill your water bottle, stretch your legs and get away from your screen for a few minutes.
Get into a habit of having a drink every time you move away from your desk, whether you are going to the loo or answering the door.
Make sure you have a glass of water before your lunch every day. This also prevents you from overeating as your body won’t be confusing hunger with dehydration.
There are plenty of fruit and vegetables which are a great source of water such as cucumber, celery, strawberries, watermelon and grapes! Switch one of your daily snacks to help increase your water intake.
Eating homemade soup is another great way to help you stay hydrated, plus provides much needed warmth during the winter months.
Hydration expert and cofounder of ViDrate, Nick Hird commented on the key benefits of drinking water:
“When we sit in the same place for a long period of time it can be easy to forget simple things like staying hydrated. We no longer have the trip to the office water cooler to make sure we’re getting our regular water intake.
“Staying hydrated is so important as it boosts productivity and creativity, makes you sleep better, think clearer and regulates your body temperature. If you’re having regular brain fog and headaches make sure you’re drinking enough water throughout the day.”
